If you must know, hyaluronic acid, which is what many lip fillers are made of, is a natural substance that is found in our body. It makes our skin flexible and stretchable and reduces skin wrinkles and lines. This substance diminishes as we age, hence wrinkles appear in our face, from the forehead to the eyes and nose, to the lips, and everywhere else. That said, it’s the most natural substance to use to improve the shape and volume of your lips.

The Treatment

This procedure is non-surgical but can cause a little discomfort, especially around the upper lip. A numbing cream is applied before the treatment to help ease the discomfort. It will usually take around 30 minutes for the whole procedure, or as long as 2 hours. High-quality hyaluronic fillers are then injected into the lips. A series of injections may be needed to achieve the desired result. Throughout the procedure, an icepack may be applied to minimise swelling and bruising.

The Effects

Common after-effects of the procedure are bruising and minor bleeding. Taking arnica and pineapple will speed up the healing and lessen inflammation of the lips. Swelling and sensitivity will go away after a day or two, but sometimes it may take a week. Lip fillers typically last around 6 to 12 months (depending on the individual and the type of filler used) and are temporary. If you want to see the difference and compare the before-and-after treatment, we advise a follow-up appointment after two weeks.

Precaution

Just to put your mind at ease, our lip fillers are like any other procedure that carries some risks and side effects like headache, a little bit of pain or numbness, bruising, and the like. Before the treatment, you will be assessed for suitability; you will be asked about your medical history, what allergies you have, medications you’re taking, and the like. All this information will be kept confidential. If found unfit for the procedure, we reserve the right to refuse service that’s deemed inappropriate. If found suitable, the treatment will push through and aftercare procedures will also be discussed thoroughly with you along with other practical tips you need to follow as your lips heal. You must be over 18 to avail of any cosmetic injectables and a script fee of $25 is applied to any new clients.
